I briefly read some of the comments on this new video of FRED talking about his upcoming tv show. I also watched a few vlogs of people ranting about FRED getting his own tv show. Its clear that so many youtubers are outraged and bitter about this. Adults find him annoying. Some teens feel the same way. I haven’t seen the new show yet but I’m pretty confident that we can expect more of the same content that we saw in two previous FRED films. I personally didn’t think the last two FRED movies were bad. They were made for kids, not adults. I don’t believe adults are supposed to be entertained by these movies that are clearly made for the 12 and under crowd. We aren’t supposed to “get it”. Kids have a different mentality of humor than grown adults. Based on my own experience doing live improv shows for younger audiences (www.improv4kids.com shameless plug) even teens have a different sense of humor from tweens. Tweens have different humor from tots and so on and so on.  I think The show will be a hit for the same reason FRED is a hit on youtube: silly, fast paced, toilet/gross out humor, random bits, physical comedy combined with a high pitched non-threatening boyish baby-faced star. Its a formula for a specific target audience. There is nothing original or groundbreaking about it, but it works. 

I’m a little confused about why many youtubers are angry about this. Rather than being annoyed they should see FRED as someone who is making a path and for future youtubers to have opportunities. My feeling is that FRED was ahead of the game when he blew up many many years ago on youtube. In the following years we would soon see more talented youtubers come along with better content but they were behind the ball. By the time this happened the internet was saturated with similar content and a hell of a lot more competitive. That being said I still believe its possible to gain a large following by producing good content on youtube. I guess the point of all this is that if you think you can do better then keep doing videos that are better. I want FRED to be a hit. If FRED is a hit, you can be certain that other networks will be looking to youtube for future content with KIDS programming. Congrats Fred.
